Grant Application Guidelines

All applicants should read these guidelines and ensure their application is consistent with them prior to completing and submitting a grant application.

IMPORTANT CUT-OFF DATES
The NZL Sailing Foundation meets quarterly to make decisions on grant applications received before the “cut-off date” prior to the quarterly meeting. Applications received after these dates cannot/may not be considered:

23 September for 7 October meeting
3 November for 17 November meeting

2027

10 March for the March quarterly meeting

10 June for the June quarterly meeting
10 September for the September quarterly meeting
10 November for the November quarterly meeting

Any application received after the cut-off date and prior to the next meeting date will only be considered under exceptional circumstances.

1. ARE YOU PART OF A TEAM?

If you are a member of a team (either as a multi-crewed yacht or as a member of an NZL representative team of multiple yachts/boards),

the NZL Sailing Foundation prefers to receive a grant application from the team, as opposed to an individual team member.

Please note, the Foundation reserves the right to award funds to specific team members only.

2. WHAT WE SUPPORT

The Foundation prioritises support for the costs of travelling to and attending recognised international regattas (including potential training before-hand).

This may include costs associated with:

Airfares
Accommodation
Boat/board/equipment transportation or charter
Insurance
Regatta entry fees
Coaching support services (e.g. coach boat costs)

3. WHAT WE PROBABLY WON’T SUPPORT

Purchase of equipment
Payment of wages for coaches
Payment of personal costs associated with travel and
competing (such as food)
Payment of costs for support personnel (such as parents)
with the exception of essential support people for special
needs
Sailors who are professional, supported by HPSNZ grants,
and/or members of the NZL Sailing Team receiving financial support from Yachting New Zealand

We may consider applications for grants from NZL Sailing Team Development Squad members, however the details of this support (financial and in-kind such as boats, coaches etc) must be disclosed in the application.

4. RIGHTS OF THE NZL SAILING FOUNDATION

Decisions on grant applications to the NZL Sailing Foundation are final and there is no right of appeal.

The Foundation has limited funds to allocate and, as a result, not all applications will be able to be approved, and not all amounts applied for will be able to be funded in full.

Grants must be spent on the specific costs that the grant has been awarded for. Any changes to the items/costs the grant was originally approved for must be requested and approved by the Foundation.

In circumstances where a grant is not able to be used/expended for the purposes for which it was approved, the money is required to be re-paid to the Foundation.

Grants are not transferable to other persons.

Applications for Grants for the personal remuneration of the applicant will not be permitted.

6. Acknowledgement:

In making this application, the Applicant/s agree/s, acknowledge/s and confirms that:

a) Any funds received by the Applicant as a result of this application will be used exclusively for the purpose stated in this application, and if requested the Applicant will provide copies of all invoices and bank statements proving such use, and the Applicant will promptly return any funds not used for such use.

b) The decision of the Foundation in respect of the application will be final and if a grant is made:

i) the Foundation may publish on its website, the name/s of the recipient/s, the purpose of the grant, and the amount awarded; and

ii) the Applicant/s will provide the Foundation with a brief report, final results of the event/s (regardless of the applicant/s placing/s) and photos (jpeg format for the trust to share); and

iii) the Foundation reserves the right to require a refund of the grant if the Foundation determines for any reason that the Applicant/s have not used the funds exclusively for the purpose specified in this application.

c) The Applicant authorises the Foundation to keep and store any information contained in or relating to this information.
